In Thai tradition it is very important to keep a calm, healthy mind, using techniques like meditation to help find your inner balance and peace, but you can’t just take care of your mind without taking care of your physical being.

There are a few common traditional Thai skin care routines you can do, at home with all natural ingredients. Whether you love to sit and soak in your warm bath, or you prefer to feel the warm water wash over your whole body during a shower. There’s all sorts of skin care routines you can do at home, let’s talk about some different types of skin care for all skin types, and all hair types, with all natural ingredients.

Baths or Showers!

During bathing:

After a long day of your body sweating, releasing toxins, touching contaminated things, going around different smells and fragrances, all of that sticks to your body. Which is why it’s not only is it important to keep your skin clean, it’s also important to give your skin what it needs to stay healthy. Here are a few things you can add to your shower and/or bath to make your skin care routine even more luxurious and nourishing:

Five Nectar Honey Bath

You will need: The pulp of 1 banana, and 1 tablespoon each of coconut milk, yogurt, and honey

Directions:

Mix the ingredients together and soak in your warm bath for 10-20 min

Tamarind Body Scrub

You will need: 2 tablespoons of tamarind powder and rice flour, 1 tablespoon of honey, 2-3 drops neroli essential oil

Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients together with a little bit of milk, until forming a paste.

Cover your body in the paste and then rinse of in the shower

Thai Spices Polisher

You will need: 1 teaspoon each of Kaffir lime peel powder, dry lemongrass (blended), cinnamon powder, and olive oil, and 2 tablespoon Guava juice

Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients together and rub into your body using a circular motion. Rinse of with warm water in the shower.

You must moisturize after your shower

Benefits of the ingredients:

Milk and yogurt leaves your skin feeling silky smooth, as-well as honey. Honey even helps to soften scar tissue around a wound. Tamarind exfoliates and polishes your skin, also helping to protect your skin from sun damage. The Thai spice polisher contains antiseptic properties and stimulates blood circulation as-well while softening and soothing skin

Face and Hair Care

Keeping up with your hair is just as important as your skin, the climate around you, different atmospheres, swimming and so many other things damage your hair and skin daily. Keeping your hair and skin moisturized and strong is vital to maintain shiny, healthy, skin and hair. Here are a few ways to keep you hair beautiful and full of volume, and your skin smooth and strong:

Tumeric Face Mask

You will need: 1/2 inch Turmeric Root, 1 tablespoon dried Soy beans

Directions:

Wash, peel, and blend the turmeric, set aside. Soak soybeans for 20 min then blend, and mix with the turmeric. Spread mixture of face, leave for 10 minutes, then wash off

Egg and Olive Hair Mask

 You will need: 2 raw eggs (more for longer hair), and 3 tablespoons each of warm olive oil and honey

Directions:

Mix together all the ingredients and massage into the scalp and hair.

Wrap in a towel for 15-20 minutes and then rinse with warm water

Honey Tangerine Facelift

You will need: 1 piece of tangerine/orange , 1 drop lavender essential oil, 1 teaspoon of honey

Directions: Rub the piece of orange all over your face, gently wipe off.

Mix honey and lavender then rub all over face, leave 5.10 min. Rinse off with warm water

Thai tradition has used turmeric for years for it’s anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. Soy beans contains estrogen, progesterone, and phyto estrogen, and used to soften and lighten skin color.

Orange cleanses and softens skins, as well as avocado. Banana contains main key ingredients to soften your skin, while giving your skin elasticity

Make sure your self care routine takes care of the whole body. There’s one vital body part to never forget about, your feet. Your feet hold up all your body’s weight moving you around to where you need to go, you walk all over your feet everyday and most of the night let’s remember to thank them. Keeping your feet moisturized, healthy and happy will also help your feet to not develop any cramps or pains, let’s go over some easy at home ways to thank your feet:

Banana and Honey Night Cream

Ingredients: Half a ripe banana, 1 teaspoon Honey , 1/2 teaspoon of lime juice

Directions:

Mash the banana and mix the other ingredients together.

Apply the mixture all over your feet, put on a pair of socks and leave on overnight

 

Workers Foot Soak

Ingredients: 2 cups of boiling water, 1 cup dried Jasmine flowers, 3-4 drops Sandalwood essential oil, 1 cup Sea Salt

Directions:

Pour the hot water into a large bowl that both your feet can go into to. Add flowers and salt and allow it to steep for 5-10 minutes. Add Sandalwood and enough water to cover the top of your feet. Soak for 10-15 minutes

If your constantly walking or standing all-day almost everyday then the workers foot soak is what you need to relax your feet!

Other Essential Oils to add to your foot bath:

Ginger- stimulates tired feet, warming and invigorating for chilblains, revives and warms cold feet

Ylang-Ylang and Lime- stimulates circulation from standing for too long

Peppermint and Lemon- soothes bunions

Benefits of the ingredients:

Lime is an essential ingredient in every Thai kitchen, but is used for more than just baking or cooking. Lime is a natural antiseptic and helps wash dull skin off your feet. Honey nourishes and moisturizes your feet, mixed with a banana to soothe and soften your skin leaving your feet relaxed and smooth.

Jasmine and Sandalwood are two therapeutic trees that grow in Thailand, if your feet are tired and achy these two ingredients are key in a nice hot foot soak for your relaxation.
